SCOUTING FOR FOOD

The Boy Scouts each year collect more than 20,000 pounds of non perishable food in March.  The Samaritan Center is the recipient of the collections from various Boy Scout Packs within Cole County.  The Saturday before the pick up date, the Boy Scouts put out plastic bags.  The community is asked to fill the bags with non-perishable and put them out on their porch the following Saturday. They then bring it to the Samaritan Center where volunteers are waiting to sort and weigh the items.  In 2007 we used about 130 volunteers.  Volunteers are asked to arrive around 11:00 and the day lasts through 3:00 p.m.
