Letter Carriers Food Drive to be held Saturday

The Letter Carriers Food Drive to benefit the Samaritan Center in Jefferson City will be Saturday.

Non-perishable food items in non-glass containers may be placed in a bag by residents' mailboxes.

The National Association of Letter Carriers food drive is an essential source of food supply for the Samaritan Center, officials said.

About one-third of the center's annual canned-good supply comes from this drive.

A special need this time of year is food children can make on their own, since many will be without the school lunch program during the summer.

Recommended items include meals in a can, macaroni and cheese, cereal, canned meats like chicken and tuna, and peanut butter and jelly.
